Description
Sa Tafona restaurant is located in the beautifully restored stately home of La Posada del Marqués in Es Verger, owned originally by the Marquess of Verger. Now a comfortable hotel, the dining room is in what used to be the old oil mill (called a 'Tafona' in Mallorcan). The oil mill mechanism has been left in the restaurant in its original form, adding a unique atmosphere to the rustic yet sophisticated setting. Chef Christian Denz offers a variety of dishes and menus, using local, seasonal products. He says: 'The kitchen is a reflection of the house - we serve fish and meat from Mallorca and I use herbs from the gardens. The idea is also to play a bit with different gastronomic influences from across Europe.' In summer, meals are served on the terrace overlooking a sensational view of the Bay of Palma.
Directions
From Palma take the road to the village of Esporles. Halfway up the village main street you will find a sign to the left to 'La Posada del Marques'. This takes you up the hill along a road out of the village into the mountains. Follow this for about 4.5 km. You will eventually come to Es Verger, a cluster of a few large houses. Follow signs to the hotel 'La Posada del Marques' which is at the end of the road.

Modern, European and market cuisine prepared with quality products from the island, herbs from the gardens, and spices of the world. A la carte menu is changed every two weeks according to seasonal products.

Dishes can be adapted to suit dietary requirements, but please let the restaurant know in advance.

La Posada del Marqués is a luxurious Mallorcan rural hotel located in the valley of Es Verger, a natural reserve with impressive views to the south of the island. The property originates from the XVIth century, but is now a four-star hotel which offers a shelter of peace and tranquillity. The unspoiled surroundings are a delight for lovers of nature.

Fresh Pasta - Home-made pumpkin gnocchi in broth of monkfish with lemon and pine nuts; Spaghetti with prawns, bell peppers & oven braised tomatoes

Dishes from Land and Sea - Fillet of sea bass on pasta 'piñones' risotto with green pea foam & green asparagus; Slice of monkfish with crust of pine nut on aubergine sweet & sour with mint; Fillet of beef on a balsamic of lentils, and rosemary flavoured potatoes; Glazed breast of duck on lime and ginger sauce with apple 'au gratin'; 'Presa' of Iberian pork stuffed with dry plums, polenta with sage & spring onions

Desserts - Apple doughnut with vanilla sauce and exotic sorbet; Luke warm chocolate cake with spiced oranges & honey ice cream; Parfait of Clementine and caramel with chocolate doughnut
Other facilities
Maximum capacity: 80 people. Please book at least one week in advance for group functions (more or less, depending on the size of the group and the season). Groups of 10 or more require a set menu.
Wine list
A carefully selected list that is always changing. About 40-50 different wines, mainly from mainland Spain and Mallorca. Cavas and Champagnes.
